It should be noted that the Vasil hard fork mainly characterizes the Basho Cardano phase. Among the eras of the creation of the network, it is the fourth in a row. The main goal of Basho is scalability. Other eras had different goals (Byron - foundation, Shelley - decentralization, Goguen - smart contracts).

We are talking about higher throughput or block formation speed, as well as higher performance and efficiency in relation to the script. The update will be released as soon as the community is ready. Representatives of the company IOG noted that it will take about 4 weeks. Previously, the hard fork was scheduled for the end of June, but then it was postponed. Engineers explain this by the fact that you need to leave time to correct existing shortcomings.
